The more information you display on your custom report the more you need to sort data to have an easy-to-read chart. Creating groups can help you achieve this by focusing on data that matter the most and displaying a total in parenthesis of the values linked this group.
Here's a concrete example of creating groups in a custom Products report. By default, you see every product variant per line with ordered quantities and values and number of customer per variant.
As a brand, you want to see which category is selling the most then total per product and variants details. To do so, follow the steps below:
- Navigate to the Custom reports tab then select the Products dimension
- Set the time period and data scope first (more details on Create a custom report tutorial)
- Click on Columns on the right side of you chart and look for Category field that you will drag and drop to the Row groups section
- Repeat the same process for the Product name field as you want to group all variants inside one row and not display on line per product's variant
- Define all columns you need to display at the category, product name or variant level
- Click on Save report tab at the top right to fill a specific title then decide if you want to share this report to all the brand users by selecting Yes. If not leave it as No
- Click on Save report button to confirm
